2010 – Race the Divide

Race the Divide ski mountaineering race is presented by Salida Mountain Sports.  Race registration and additional information will be available at the shop. Participants must carry a beacon/shovel/probe and wear a helmet (bike ok) during the event.

Race the Divide is part of the COSMIC (Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup) Series presented by The United States Ski Mountaineering Association.

When: 8 am start for Race, Heavy Metal and Recreation categories

Course: Recreation course is two climbs and descents, approximately 2,000 feet. Race/Heavy Metal/Vet course is four climbs and 3,500 feet.

Green star indicates start/finish for both Race and Rec categories.

Race Lap 1 (RED)-  Racers place skis at bottom of Freeway run for running approach from start/finish. At start of event, Race category participants run to skis and begin climbing up Freeway and Sleepy Hollow to Short-N-Sweet. Racers continue climb to top of Panorama lift and descend down High Anxiety.

Race Lap 2 (ORANGE) - Racers cross through start/finish and begin climb up through the K2 Organic Terrain Park. Continue climbing from Breezeway lift to the top of Mirkwood. Descend Mirkwood.

Race Lap 3 (YELLOW) – Racers climb up Elation Ridge and descend same run as lap 2 down Mirkwood bowl.

Race Lap 4 (BLUE) – Same climb up Elation Ridge as Lap 3. Same descent down Mirkwood. Continue back to start/finish.

Rec Lap 1 (ORANGE) – Racers place skis at bottom of K2 Organic Terrain Park for running approach from start/finish. At start of event, Rec category participants run to skis and begin climbing up K2 Organic Terrain Park to top of Breezeway lift. Continue climbing from Breezeway lift to the top of Mirkwood. Descend Mirkwood.

Rec Lap 2 (BLUE) – Racers climb up Elation Ridge and descend same run as lap 1 down Mirkwood bowl. Continue back to start/finish.
